Balanced feet: walk, fit, move · 6 minutes
Purpose
Keep feet active while maintaining a balanced blocking position.
Setup
One athlete, a qualified coach, and a clear five-yard lane. A hand shield is optional for a supervised progression.
Repetitions
Two sets of five short reps, with feedback between sets.
Instructions
- 1. Start in the stance taught by your coach.
- 2. Take the first two steps along the called path without crossing your feet.
- 3. Continue short, balanced steps for three yards.
- 4. Freeze on the coach’s signal and check your base.
- 5. Reset and repeat; add a stationary shield only under qualified supervision.
Coaching cues
- Balanced base.
- Short, active steps.
- Eyes up and hands in the coached position.
Corrections
If feet stop, slow down and repeat without resistance. If the athlete leans, shorten the steps and reset the base.
Easier version
Walk the path without equipment or contact.
Harder version
A qualified coach adds light, controlled shield resistance while checking balance.
Safety & supervision
Start without contact. Follow your program’s contact rules and equipment requirements. Keep the head out of contact and stop if balance or technique breaks down.
Next check: Observe five practice reps on two separate days, then review the next comparable run-blocking snaps.
